Advice from Doctors Dating,
Don’t give too much away — save some details for the face-to-face conversation (part 2)
Following on from last time, save some of those “small talk” conversation topics for your face to face dates.
You should stop yourself from asking all of those regular questions. You could make a list of what questions you want to chat about online, and a list of questions for your face to face encounter. You have plenty of time. Create some mystery. Leave some questions unanswered. You want interesting and lengthy conversations when you finally meet up. Let your partner respond lively and eagerly. Remember there are questions which can be asked in order to know a person better, and there are questions which can be asked when the two of you are more comfortable with each other. Don’t reveal any details that you aren’t comfortable with.
We suggest to avoid the following when chatting online:
• Don’t offer your whole life story, and list all of your achievements. Your partner will think that you are bragging. Save some of these stories for later on, when you can get a discussion going.
• Don’t talk about sex. That is, if you want a long term relationship. You don’t want to overexpose yourself. The more discrete you are on this topic, the more your partner will hang around to find out more.
• Don’t lie or brag about details in your life like marital status, income, or occupation.
Don’t give too much while chatting online. Leave some topics for your face to face conversations where you can enjoy a dynamic and interesting exchange.
